Minute Maid acquired Snow Crop in 1954. This was a frozen fruits and vegetables brand whose goal was to diversify beyond orange juice. The venture failed when surplus crops depressed prices, forcing Minute Maid to license the brand to Seabrook Farms.
Discontinued: 1990
Imagine a citrus blend combining orange, lemon, grapefruit, lime, and tangerine juices. Well, that’s exactly what Minute Maid did with Five Alive. Though the super fruity drink was popular throughout the 1980s, it was discontinued due to the 1994 launch of Fruitopia. But supposedly, you can still find the fruit drink in Canada.
Discontinued: 1990
Juice with bubbles, Lemon-Lime Soda, was part of Minute Maid’s soda line that competed with PepsiCo’s Slice soda. Despite memorable advertising campaigns with wind machines, the crowded lemon-lime market led to its quiet removal.
Discontinued: 2005
Yet another soda by Minute Maid. This carbonated fruit punch featured hot pink branding typical of 1990s marketing. But the clearly artificial nature likely contributed to the drink’s discontinuation.
Discontinued: 2015
Nothing sells better than health. The Minute Maid Enhances line were health-focused juice drinks with added nutrients like yerba mate, omega-3, and antioxidants. But the entire line faced legal challenges, including a class action lawsuit over the Pomegranate Blueberry blend’s nutritional claims. It was a rough downfall.
Discontinued: 2015
Having failed in their most recent health focus experiment, why not design a fruit drink targeting the heart? Well, that’s where Heart Wise Orange Juice comes in. This was an orange juice fortified with plant sterols designed to reduce cholesterol levels. Despite proven health benefits and good taste, juice was squeezed out of existence.
Discontinued: 2015
Soft Frozen Strawberry Lemonade was a frozen dessert-drink hybrid. It was sold in 12-ounce cups with an ice cream-like texture and hot pink color. It sounds pretty overboard. The product balanced sweetness and tartness but failed to find sustained consumer demand.
Discontinued: 2021
Nothing hits the spot like cherry plus lime. This sweet-tart combination gained devoted fans before disappearing without a company announcement. The drink’s discontinuation sparked outrage, and some fans called it the most genius flavor ever created.
Discontinued: 2021
Orangeade was a lightly carbonated orange drink containing 3% orange juice. Going a little overboard on the juice, I see. Its sudden disappearance was blamed on COVID-related supply shortages.
Discontinued: Unknown
Minute Maid Coolers were juice drinks available in flavors like Berry Punch, Clear Cherry, and Tropical Punch. They were Coca-Cola’s answer to Capri Sun. Supposably, you can’t find them in stores anymore. Stick to Capri, I guess.
