MOBY JACK

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: Early 1980s

Jack in the Box created this fish sandwich to compete with McDonald's Filet-O-Fish. Named after Melville's whale, Moby Jack featured breaded fish on a bun. The company discontinued this fast food item during their 1980 rebrand from family restaurant to upscale chain.

SUPER TACO

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: Early 1990s

This larger taco filled a deep-fried corn shell with meat, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and salsa. Super Taco vanished when Jack in the Box launched Monster Meals in 1992. It made way for the similar but rebranded Monster Taco.

FRINGS

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: Early 1980s

Frings solved the fries-or-onion-rings dilemma by serving both together. Jack in the Box even trademarked the name. The company jokes that Frings "went the way of mood rings and shag carpeting."

CHICKEN SUPREME

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: Mid 2000s

Jack in the Box's first chicken sandwich launched with their famous "Exploding Clown" commercial. Chicken Supreme paired fried chicken with Monterey Jack and Swiss cheeses on wheat bread. This premium sandwich marked their shift toward premium menu options.

HOT HAM AND CHEESE SUPREME

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: 1990s

This deli sandwich combined ham and melted cheese with horseradish-mustard sauce on a poppy-seed roll. Hot Ham and Cheese Supreme debuted during Jack in the Box's transformation from clown-themed family spot to professional dining destination. Though that can still be argued.

SUPREME SALADS

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: 1990s

Jack in the Box pioneered packaged salads, beating McDonald's to market with Chef's, Shrimp, Chicken, and Taco salad options. These meal-sized Supreme Salads targeted health-conscious customers during the 1980s fitness boom but lost popularity over time.

DINNER IN THE BOX

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: 1990s

This upscale evening meal offered chicken, shrimp, or sirloin steak sandwiches with salad, garlic bread, and wedge fries.Available 4-10 PM for $2.99, Dinner in the Box represented Jack in the Box's boldest attempt at fine dining.

ORIGINAL FAJITA PITA

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: Early 1990s

This beef-filled pita captured 11% of total Jack in the Box sales at launch. Despite its success, the company replaced Original Fajita Pita with the Chicken Fajita Pita after tests showed customers preferred white meat over beef.

GOLDEN SHRIMP

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: 1990s

Golden Shrimp joined Jack in the Box's Finger Foods collection in 1987, sold in five or seven-piece orders. This breaded seafood option preceded modern appetizer trends but couldn't match the popularity of Egg Rolls and Chicken Strips.

TAQUITOS

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: 1990s, 2002

These shredded beef rolls in corn tortillas failed twice. First launched in 1988, then revived in 2002, Taquitos never caught on with customers. The modern Tiny Tacos serve as its spiritual successor.

MONSTER TACO

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: 2009, 2019 (now seasonal)

Originally part of 1992's Monster Meal trio, this oversized taco with double cheese became a cult favorite. Fan outrage over its 2009 removal forced Jack in the Box to bring it back in 2013. Now it returns each Halloween.

CIABATTA SANDWICHES/BURGERS

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: November 2009

These Italian bread sandwiches represented Jack in the Box's push into fast-casual territory. Despite popularity, the company cut the entire ciabatta line during the 2009 recession to streamline operations and reduce costs.

GRANDE SAUSAGE BURRITO

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: 2023

This large breakfast burrito anchored Jack in the Box's pioneering all-day breakfast menu for over two decades. Its 2023 removal triggered customer outrage on social media.

POTATO WEDGES

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: 2021 (most recent)

Potato Wedges embody Jack in the Box's rotating menu strategy, disappearing and returning multiple times. They occasionally come back as loaded varieties with cheese and bacon. The 2023 version featured their signature Spicy Good Good Sauce.

ORIGINAL MUNCHIE MEALS

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: 2023

These late-night meals targeted buzzed users with post-9 PM availability and obvious "munchies" branding. The original lineup included Spicy Nacho Chicken, Sriracha Curly Fry Burger, Stacked Grilled Cheeseburger, and Chick-n-Tater Melt.

PRIME RIB STEAK & EGG BURRITO

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: 2019

This premium breakfast burrito lasted just three months. Prime Rib Steak & Egg Burrito featured upscale ingredients, including prime rib, scrambled eggs, hash browns, and cheese. But it proved too expensive and complex for fast food.

REGULAR CHICKEN SANDWICH

Jack In The Box

Discontinued: 2024

Jack in the Box's basic chicken sandwich survived over 30 years despite criticism as one of fast food's worst chicken offerings. The simple chicken patty, mayo, and lettuce combination was finally put to rest in 2024.
