SPECULOOS COOKIE BUTTER CHEESECAKE

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: ~2014

When Trader Joe’s introduced Speculoos Cookie Butter in 2011, it became an instant sensation. So naturally, they turned it into a cheesecake.

Picture a speculoos cookie crust holding rich cheesecake filling, swirled with that addictive cookie butter spread. It made you question if you even needed to eat dinner first.

MATCHA JOE-JOE’S

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: 2019

2017 was matcha’s moment in the sun. Green tea lattes were everywhere, matcha ice cream was trendy, and Pantone had just named “Greenery” the color of the year.

TJ’s capitalized on the trend by launching their own green sandwich cookies. Real matcha powder created a distinctive earthy flavor, sandwiched between golden vanilla wafers. People loved the bright green filling popping against those crisp cookies.

Matcha enthusiasts were obsessed. But sadly, these Instagram-worthy cookies were discontinued after only a couple of years on the shelves.

HONEY BUTTER POTATO CHIPS

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: 2018

These chips were reportedly inspired by a Korean snack sensation. Honey butter flavored treats that had taken South Korea by storm.

Sweet meets salty in the most addictive way possible. Imagine your favorite potato chip, but elevated with honey's sweetness and butter’s richness. It sounds weird on paper, but once you’ve got a bag full, you couldn’t stop with just one.

SALTED CARAMEL GELATO

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: ~2020

This gelato launched right at the peak of America’s salted caramel obsession in 2014. Everywhere you looked—coffee shops, bakeries, ice cream parlors—salted caramel was in vogue.

TJ’s version perfected the trend. Creamy gelato texture (denser and more intense than regular ice cream) with that perfect sweet-salty balance made this gelato stand out in the hyper-competitive ice cream market.

For years, it was a freezer aisle staple.

BELGIAN CHOCOLATE PUDDING

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: 2021

This wasn’t your childhood chocolate pudding. This was serious chocolate. Rich, dense, and intense.

Belgian chocolate gave it sophistication that American puddings typically lack. Some customers found it too rich, others called it “sublime.” It had the texture of mousse but the boldness of dark chocolate.

HI-PROTEIN VEGGIE BURGER

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: 2023

For vegans, this burger seemed like a sure winner. Twenty-six grams of protein from pea protein and black beans. Plus, it was both soy-free and gluten-free.

For five years, it was a freezer aisle staple for vegetarians, vegans, and even omnivores. Families relied on it. Fitness enthusiasts loved the protein content. It checked every box on paper.

But these burgers were notoriously crumbly. And vegans everywhere moved on to new horizons.

HATCH CHILE CHICKEN WRAPS

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: 2021

This might hold the record for shortest Trader Joe’s product lifespan. Introduced in early 2021, gone by year’s end.

TJ’s version of Taco Bell’s Crunchwrap Supreme seemed like the perfect concept. Chicken, black beans, and Hatch chile flavoring in a convenient wrap format.

But the “great idea” didn’t translate to sales. This quick exit suggests it didn’t meet expectations.

ARRABIATA SAUCE

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: 2022

Among TJ’s dozen-plus pasta sauces, Arrabiata stood out for one reason. It’s bold heat.

This wasn’t just “mildly spicy” like many American interpretations of Italian food. This was the real deal. Intense fiery arrabiata that could actually challenge your taste buds.

Customers prized it for its authenticity, but when it disappeared in 2022, they had to settle for TJ’s other sauces. None quite matched that specific spicy profile that made Arrabiata special.

JUMBO BLACK RAISINS

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: ~2018

These weren’t just big raisins. They were enormous. Sun-dried black raisins with complex, wine-like flavors. They put your typical golden raisins to shame.

The size shocked first-time buyers.

TJ’s later replaced them with Jumbo Raisin Medley, mixing black with golden and red varieties.

TOFU EDAMAME NUGGETS

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: ~2020

These bite-sized pockets featured firm tofu. Inside, you got a blast of edamame, shredded carrots, and soft tofu. Eleven grams of protein per serving.

Another great vegan option at TJ’s. Creative, protein-packed, and tasty.

EGGPLANT CUTLETS

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: 2019

Pre-cut, breaded eggplant cutlets. What else could a vegetarian hope for? Perfect for weeknight eggplant parmesan without all the prep work.

The cutlets were restaurant-quality vegetarian meals accessible for busy home cooks. Just heat and serve with pasta and marinara sauce.

SPICY CHEESE CRUNCHIES

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: 2022

TJ’s answer to Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. But with a twist.

But they just weren’t as good as the Frito-Lay version.

FROZEN SPINACH LASAGNA

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: 2021

Single-serving frozen lasagna with simple, quality ingredients: spinach, noodles, tomato sauce, ricotta, olive oil, and spices. Perfect for office lunches or solo dinners.

This frozen meal used elevated ingredients and thoughtful preparation.

CHILI SESAME OIL

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: 2023

As simple as it gets. Sesame oil infused with dried red chilies. Two ingredients creating endless possibilities.

Essential for Asian cooking enthusiasts who wanted heat with their sesame flavor. Perfect for drizzling on noodles, potstickers, or incorporating into salad dressings.

TJ’s still sells regular sesame oil and chili onion oil separately, but fans argue that mixing them doesn’t recreate this product’s specific balance.

REAL MAYONNAISE

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: 2022

Wait. Trader Joe’s discontinued mayonnaise? Yes, one of America’s most basic condiments got the axe.

It highlighted TJ’s willingness to discontinue just about anything.

GARLIC FRIES

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: 2018

Frozen garlic fries seemed like an obvious winner.

They had their fans, but apparently not enough to justify freezer space in TJ’s competitive frozen foods section.

RED REFRESH HERBAL TEA

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: 2022

A complex blend featuring hibiscus, lemongrass, peppermint, orange peel, and wild cherry bark. This was not your grandmother’s herbal tea.

But it got lost among TJ’s extensive tea selection.

RICE PUDDING

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: 2021

Simple, comforting rice pudding made with milk, rice, cream, eggs, and cane sugar. Not quite arroz con leche.

2021 was apparently a bad year for puddings at TJ’s. Both this and the Belgian chocolate pudding disappeared around the same time.

FUDGE SAUCE & FONDUE

Trader Joe's

Discontinued: 2022

Dual-purpose chocolate sauce that worked as an ice cream topping or a fruit dip. One product, multiple uses.

Consumers called it “yummy,” “rich,” and “creamy.”

Why it is gone now, we will probably never know.
