Brian Smith brought these sheepskin boots from Australia to California in 1978 and called them UGGs. The Classic Original built UGG's entire reputation on twin-faced sheepskin and fleece lining. But Oprah changed everything in 2003 when she bought 350 pairs for her audience on "Favorite Things." Later water damage complaints finally discontinued the Classic Original shoe after nearly four decades.

The Cardy featured three wooden buttons that turned a boot into a sweater. You could wear the Cardy pulled up, slouched down, or folded over completely. College campuses exploded with Cardy boots in the mid-2000s. The knit stretched badly over time, which drove many buyers crazy.

One wooden button made all the difference. The Bailey Button looked cleaner than the basic Classic but kept the same sheepskin comfort. People loved this style so much that Zappos brought it back for their anniversary in 2024.

Leather and fringe replaced sheepskin for the first time. The Sundance chased bohemian trends with Western flair. It never caught on like the sheepskin boots that made UGG famous. This experiment taught UGG to stick with what worked.

UGG's first slipper used basic sheepskin construction. The Coquette Original opened up the indoor market beyond boots. Multiple versions followed, but this simple design started it all.

Buckles and water-resistant materials defined the Brookfield. UGG wanted to solve the rain problem that plagued other styles. The Brookfield failed, but its waterproof lessons lived on in the Classic II.
