What if Pop-Tarts were waffles?
Launched in 2000 during the golden age of filled breakfast pastries, Waf-FULLS were the diamonds in the treasure chest. Strawberry, blueberry, and apple cinnamon fillings nestled inside actual waffle exteriors. No syrup needed—just toast and go.
The commercials were delightfully unhinged, featuring waffles hunting down and devouring anthropomorphic fruit blobs.
But after 23 years of loyal fans, Kellogg’s pulled the plug in April 2023, claiming they “didn’t have enough fans.” Tell that to the 147+ people who signed the Change.org petition begging for their return.

The breakfast hybrid that shouldn’t have worked.
Imagine cinnamon-sugar on French toast, but with the convenience and crispy texture of a toaster waffle. No need for stovetop prep, no messy egg-soaking process.
These Eggo’s were the perfect solution for busy parents who wanted to give their kids something special without the weekend-morning effort.

The healthy choice that tasted good.
During the 1990s wellness boom, the majority of “healthy” breakfast options tasted like cardboard. Not Nutri-Grain waffles. These whole-grain Eggo’s managed to deliver both nutrition and flavor.
Available in regular and low-fat versions, with flavors like blueberry that actually popped with real fruit taste. They even survived a listeria scare in 2016 (10,000 cases recalled) and were still selling strong.
Then came June 2021. Despite selling “millions of boxes” annually, according to devastated fans, Kellogg’s axed the entire line. The reason? Insufficient demand. The math didn’t add up, but here we are.

The comeback kid that couldn’t quite stick the landing.
Fall mornings and apple cinnamon are a match made in breakfast heaven. These Eggo waffles delivered that perfect autumn feeling year-round. They featured warm spices, sweet apple chunks, and an aroma that could awaken the entire household.
First launched in 1993, they had a solid 23-year run before this frozen staple was discontinued in 2016. But the fan outcry was real.
Eggo listened. In 2020, they brought them back, citing “popular demand and many social media posts.” Victory! Except... it wasn’t permanent. By early 2023, they were discontinued again.

The fiber revolution that fizzled out.
The early 1990s were wild for health food trends. Oat bran became the star ingredient of the era. Heart-healthy! Fiber-rich! Doctor-recommended! But let’s be honest—oat bran had an image problem. It was the sensible choice, not the fun one.
This is where Eggo’s marketing genius comes into play. Their commercials literally poked fun at oat bran’s serious reputation.
They positioned these waffles as the antidote to boring health food.
But health fads are fickle. By the mid-1990s, the oat bran craze had cooled, and these waffles quietly disappeared.

The seasonal sensation that arrived just as pumpkin spice mania was taking off.
Talk about missing the moment. Eggo launched Pumpkin Spide Waffles in 2011, right when America was falling head-over-heels for all things pumpkin spice. Starbucks was conquering fall, and Pinterest was exploding with pumpkin recipes. Seasonal trends were big business.
Real pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger created an authentic autumn experience that somehow avoided tasting like a candle.
Part of Eggo’s rotating “Seasons” collection, they even got a Thick & Fluffy upgrade in 2016. Then... silence. As pumpkin spice conquered everything from dog treats to deodorant, Eggo walked away from the flavor for good.

The chocolate lover’s dream that was too good for this world.
Belgian-style thickness meets American chocolate obsession. What could go wrong?
Launched in 2018 alongside other Thick & Fluffy versions, these weren’t just chocolate chip waffles. They were cocoa-infused dough loaded with chocolate chips.
The timing seemed perfect. Premium breakfast products were trending, indulgent flavors were winning, and the Thick & Fluffy line was Eggo’s answer to artisanal frozen waffles.
But then they were replaced by Thick & Fluffy Dark Chocolate Chip Waffles. Sadly, they weren’t the same.
Discontinued: Mid-2010s
The comfort food mashup that never got the recognition it deserved.
Banana bread is the perfect baked good. Warm, sweet, with that perfect banana flavor that brings you back to Grandma’s house.
Eggo Banana Bread Waffles captured that soft, subtly sweet banana bread essence, but in Eggo form. Perfect for breakfast or dessert, they delivered homemade taste without the effort.
These Eggos were slowly phased out, becoming harder and harder to find until they simply... weren’t there anymore.

The campfire classic that didn’t work for breakfast.
Chocolate, marshmallow, and graham cracker flavors baked into a single waffle? On paper, it should have worked. S’mores are universally beloved, and the flavors seemed perfect for Eggo.
The concept was playful and fun. Kids would go crazy for them, and adults would love the nostalgic connection to summer nights around the fire.
But 2009 was a rough year for Eggo. The Great Waffle Shortage hit when production issues at multiple plants created nationwide scarcity. Fans were rationing their remaining boxes, and the company was in crisis mode.
S’mores waffles became a casualty of that chaos, discontinued after just a few years on shelves.

Everyone knows that muffin tops are the best part of a muffin.
Remember that Seinfeld episode about muffin tops? Eggo was paying attention.
These bite-sized breakfast treats took the universally loved “best part” of muffins and made them the whole product. Blueberry and chocolate chip flavors, designed to toast four at a time, delivering that perfect fluffy muffin-top texture. No more dense bottom parts nobody really wants.
The 2007 commercial showed a fake announcement for “Muffin Bottoms”—described as “the least desirable part of a muffin; the part no one wants to eat.” The dad’s disgusted reaction was priceless before the real product was revealed.
They were perfectly portioned for kids, mess-free for parents, and solved a problem we didn’t even know we had.

The Canadian exclusive that was ahead of its time.
Canada gets the cool exclusive products, and this was no exception.
Launched in 1980, these Eggo waffles combined cinnamon with California raisins to create what Eggo described as “one of the coziest frozen waffle experiences around.”
But the cozy vision wasn’t shared by enough consumers. After just two years, they disappeared from Canadian freezers, never making it south to the U.S. market.
This breakfast graveyard is full of good ideas that just needed better timing.
