Monster Energy
Note: Unfortunately, I could not find release dates for most of these Bang Energy drinks, but all these energy drinks were discontinued during the great Monster Energy purge.
Discontinued: 2023
Bang Energy was introduced in 2012 by Jack Owoc, founder of Vital Pharmaceuticals (VPX), as a carbonated energy beverage formulated to fuel the brain and body. Owoc was unhappy with the existing options in the energy drink market and wanted something healthier, not health destroying. Owac was especially concerned with the amount of sugar in existing soft drinks. The original Bang was revolutionary for being sugar-free while maintaining great taste. This flagship flavor laid the foundation for what Owoc called "the BANG Revolution" and remained available for over a decade.
Discontinued: 2023
Pina Colada was released in 2017 as a new Bang flavor, notable for breaking away from the typical black-based can design. It featured colors that evoked the iconic Pina Colada cocktail. It set the stage for the future direction for Bang's visual branding. The flavor was remarkable for achieving an intense level of sweetness with zero calories and zero sugar. It featured a strong coconut aroma that was balanced with pineapple flavors. The drink later evolved into "Whole Lotta Pina Colada" as a renewed version.
2023
On July 31, 2023, Monster Beverage completed its $362 million acquisition of Bang Energy from the bankrupt Vital Pharmaceuticals. By September it relaunched Bang Energy with only 12 SKUs using Coca-Cola bottlers. They discontinued 20 flavors that eliminated nearly two-thirds of Bang's portfolio. The purge swept away favorites includingChampagne, Miami Cola, Birthday Cake Bash, Whole Lotta Chocolata, Frose Rose, and many Sweet Tea varieties.Monster also discontinued all of Vital's other products, including Natural Bang, Bang Keto Coffee, and Bang MIXX Hard Seltzer, leaving the brand a skeleton of itself.
