WONKA BAR

Wonka

Discontinued: 2014

Quaker Oats financed the 1971 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film to launch this chocolate bar. The bars were sold in stores before the movie premiered. Concorde Confections bought the rights in 1975 and released chewy nougat bars in vanilla, chocolate, cherry, and banana. But these variations disappeared by 1979.

Nestlé bought the brand and sold Wonka Bars in 2005 for the Tim Burton film. They were formulated with graham cracker pieces mixed with milk chocolate. They sold well at first. But Nestlé stopped US production in 2010. International versions lasted until 2014.

OOMPAS

Wonka

Discontinued: 1983

One of the first Wonka products in 1971. Each candy was quarter-sized with a candy shell covering half chocolate, half peanut butter. The split filling let you taste both flavors in one bite. A strawberry version appeared in 1980 but failed. Production ended in 1982. Nestlé brought back the name in 2001 for a different UK candy with flavors like mashed potato and cucumber. Those candies were eventually discontinued as well.

SUPER SKRUNCH BAR

Wonka

Discontinued: Late 1980s

Another early candy bar by Wonka. The Super Skrunch Bar featured peanut butter and was layered with crisp rice chocolate. It was eventually replaced by a similar product called Willy Wonka's Peanut Butter Bar.

VOLCANO ROCKS

Wonka

Discontinued: Early 1980s

These appeared around 1976 in boxes like Nerds. Multi-colored pieces that fizzed or popped like Pop Rocks. A packaging redesign didn't help, and they vanished in the early 1980s.

DWEEBS

Wonka

Discontinued: 1995

Bigger, softer Nerds like candy from the early 1990s. The boxes said "Cousins of Nerds" on the front of the package. Three compartments instead of two meant three flavors per box. Original flavors included: Punch, Strawberry, Orange, Cherry, with later additions: Cola, Grape, Blueberry, Watermelon, Lemonade, Apple.

Too similar to Nerds. They were gone after four or five years in the US. But they did return briefly to Europe in 2022.

CHEWY RUNTS

Wonka

Discontinued: 2014

These were soft versions of the hard Runts candies. Same fruit shapes and flavors, easier to chew. Launched in the 1980s but never matched regular Runts in popularity.

XPLODER/TINGLERZ/K-BOOM

Wonka

Discontinued: 2000

Chocolate chunks filled with popping candy, released in 1998. They were given different names by region: Xploder in the UK, K-Boom in Australia and New Zealand, Tinglerz in the US. American wrappers called them "poppin' tinglin' chocolate candy." Nestlé killed all versions after two years.

WONKA DONUTZ

Wonka

Discontinued: 2013

Another Tim Burton film tie-in from 2005. Not actual donuts but donut-shaped chocolate truffles covered in rainbow sprinkles. Made in Brazil, imported to the US. There were high hopes for this candy, but they just couldn't make it.

SHOCKERS

Wonka

Discontinued: Mid-2000s

Shockers were extremely sour with aggressive packaging. They became one of the strongest sour candies available. Eventually replaced by SweeTarts Chewy Sours, which also got discontinued. Only regular SweeTarts survived.

WONKA EXCEPTIONALS

Wonka

Discontinued: 2012

Nestlé's last attempt at Wonka Bars was launched in March 2010. They came in three varieties: Scrumdiddlyumptious (toffee, cookie, peanuts in milk chocolate), Chocolate Waterfall (white and milk chocolate swirl), and Domed Dark Chocolate (dark chocolate with milk chocolate medallions). Later additions: Triple Dazzle Caramel and Fantabulous Fudge.

Each bar included a Golden Ticket sweepstakes. Ten tickets, each worth a trip around the world. They were discontinued by 2012.
